Bronze Mother of Pearl

Mother of Pearl is an organic gem formed from protective layers of calcium carbonate which line the inside of the pearl oyester shell. This is the same natural process and material as the pearl, and takes up to seven years to form. This particular specimen has a bronze type like colour from which it gets it´s name. The beautiful iridescent sheen you see in mother-of-pearl results from light reflecting off numerous oriented microscopic slabs of aragonit which are bound together by a special protein. These large scale panels of specimen pieces of mother of pearl have been closely laid out to take full advantage of the natural beauty of the shell stone. Suitable for indoor use
